Setting and scenery

Tokara winery is owned by GT Ferreira and his wife, Anne-Marie, and it is named after their two children Thomas and Kara.

Tokara winery is situated near the top of Helshoogte Pass and is only 5 km away from the university town of Stellenbosch.  Tokara ooks out over vineyards and olive groves and has scenic views across False Bay and Table Mountain.


Wines and Olive oils:

Tokara winery produces its own wines and olive oils. Its setting is the perfect place to create their wines: the cool air and low temperatures contribute to the excellent quality of the Tokara wine. With winemaker Miles Mossop combined with cutting-edge technologies and computerized control systems Tokara winery promises a premium wine range.

The wine is produced from three different farms in Stellenbosch, Elgen and Hemel-and-Aarde valley.

Anne-Marie is in charge of the olive oil business. Tokara have a great range of olive oil products to choose from.  You can even go on a tutored tasting tour at The Olive Shed appreciating the different types and richness of the oils. The Olive shed is the only South African producer of single varietal olive oils. The olive oil range includes Leccino, Frantoio, Mission and Multi Varietal. It is known for its fruitiness, intensity and flavour.

Wedding receptions:

Wedding receptions are held at the main restaurant next to the tasting room. It offers contemporary winelands cuisine paired with the Tokara wines under the leadership of chef Richard Carstens.

Maximum: 110 people (ideal number = 80 guests that leaves enough room for tables and a dance floor)

Venue Fee: On Request

Food: 3 course set menu (a la carté): you can choose from the function menu. You have a choice between three starters, three mains, three desserts and coffee.

Wine and other beverages: not included in the price, additional prices.

You can enjoy pre-drinks or snacks in the tasting room from 6 pm. Unfortunately the main dining area is only open for the wedding party at 7 pm.

You can decorate the restaurant according to your wishes and the DJ may play until 1 am which is the same time the bar closes.

For smaller, intimate wedding receptions:

Maximum: 25 people in the adjacent semi-private dining room. You can look out on the balcony and enjoy the surrounding views of Stellenbosch and False Bay.


Tokara DeliCATessen

The Deli is run by mother, Anne-Marie, and her daughter, Kara, who is one of the chefs. The Deli provides local produce with as far as possible organic, no preservatives and colorant free. It seats 100 people.

You can enjoy the following produce at the Deli:

Olive products: Tokara’s own extra virgin cold-pressed olive oils, kalamata olives and olive paste

Savoury: cheese, ham, free range chickens, venison, lamb; and local and imported charcuterie.

Sweet-tooth: jams, pastries, organic yoghurt, milk, cream and hand-made Belgian chocolate truffles.

Aromatic coffee.

Fresh vegetables and flowers.

Tokara provides an artful experience:

There is art stonework in the cellar made by a South African artist who now resides in France.

Tokara Wine Made Art
Every September, when Tokara winery releases their new vintage wines, they promote it by letting up and coming artists make paintings using Tokara Red wine.

Fine Art at Tokara

The curator, Julia Meintjies, hosts 3-4 exhibitions every year. The artwork includes paintings, sculptures, ceramics, original graphics and other works on paper as well as artwork from indigenous artists: pots, beadwork and wire.

Sculpture Garden

Situated at the Tokara DeliCATessen, owned by Anne-Marie Ferreira and Ilse Schermes. The sculptures is made according to the specific psycho-geography of the Stellenbosch area.
